Content Overview: Fentanyl, and its cousin carfentanil, are powerful synthetic opioids that can be up to 100 times stronger than Morphine. It has been a recent addition to much of the heroin being sold on the streets making being addicted even more dangerous than ever before. Fentanyl is used to treat moderate to severe pain. A Schedule II controlled substance, it is classified as an analgesic and opioid. It falls in the same category as morphine. There are several brand names of the drug, including Fentora, Subsys, Lazanda, Onsolis, and Ionsys. Its injection is used to produce surgical anesthesia, as well as for pain treatment during and after surgery.
