Southern California Substance Abuse

Treatment Programs

When you or a loved one is addicted to drugs, finding the right treatment program can make all the difference. South Coast Counseling has proudly offered our treatment programs in Southern California for over 50 years that can help you achieve long-term recovery from drugs and alcohol. Learn more about our unique and innovative treatment programs for substance abuse and co-occurring mental illness.

Mental health and substance abuse treatment centers provide addicts and alcoholics, and those who use mind or mood-altering substances to deal with underlying psychiatric illnesses, some much needed time away from their everyday lives so that they can heal and prepare to reenter society, even if they choose a lower level of care.

Drug rehabs provide patients with the tools necessary for them to learn how to deal and cope with life without having to self-medicate. Alternatively, some users just use drugs recreationally and not as a coping mechanism, and those patients will be provided with knowledge on how harmful certain drugs can be on the body if they continue down the path that they are on.

It is an unfortunate fact that overdose rates are skyrocketing across the country, even in individuals who don’t think they have a severe problem. Due to the startling numbers, there is no better time than time than now to enroll yourself or a loved one in a drug and alcohol treatment program.

Inpatient and Residential Treatment for Drug Addicts and  Alcoholics

Entering a residential treatment program gives you some time away from outside influences so you can concentrate on yourself. The first few weeks and even months can be very difficult to try and stay clean and sober without someone else holding you accountable, especially if you’ve been living in an enabling environment. But remember, staying clean and sober isn’t the only goal here.

The length of a typical drug rehab stay is around thirty days, however, some patients find that they need more time. There are long-term treatment centers available that help you learn life skills, work through legal issues, and can even assist in helping with education. A large percentage of employees who work in these facilities are in recovery themselves, and they just want to give back. This is a program that we cannot work on our own, and we have to help each other. It’s important to remember that no one will judge you when you enter a treatment program. In fact, your willingness will be commended.

Types of Drug Addictions We Can Help With

What if I Also Have Other Psychiatric Illnesses As Well?

Often times, genetics play a huge role, as well as your living environment, relationships with others, poor coping skills, etc. that can all be explored through therapy. However, sometimes there are co-occurring mental illnesses that our team of doctors and staff are trained and experienced in treating. For example:

    • Schizophrenia
    • Bipolar Disorder
    • Dementia
    • PTSD
    • Anxiety
  • Depression

…and the list goes on. If you or a loved one needs additional care in addition to their substance abuse issues, you can rest well knowing that you or the person you care so much about is in compassionate, qualified hands in our Dual Diagnosis Program.

Intensive Outpatient & Outpatient Programs

Treatment programs for addiction can vary drastically because those who suffer from drug or alcohol addiction vary drastically. Some addictions aren’t as severe and can manage in a part-time Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), while some require around-the-clock, residential care.

In an Intensive Outpatient Program, clients attend therapy groups and one-on-one sessions on a part-time basis instead of all day long. They are still assigned a primary therapist, participate in small groups, and are included in other rehabilitative activities.

IOPs are typically more suitable for those with less severe addictions or those who have completed an inpatient or residential program and are stepping down to a lower level of care. However, sometimes IOPs can be a legitimate life-saver for people whose lives are becoming unmanageable due to their substance abuse, but can’t take the time away from their responsibilities at home, like work, families, and childcare.

Always remember the very true, yet very repetitive slogan: “Whatever you put before your recovery, you will lose.”.
